Abstract

Catamixis baccharoides Thomson (Asteraceae), an undershrub endemic to Saharanpur Siwalik, is a highly endangered species of the Garhwal Himalaya. An extensive survey was carried out to know the present status of the species and the causes of its disappearance. In nature, due to habitat destruction, forest fires, new road constructions in hilly areas, low viability of species in some specific habitats, and low germination percentage of seeds, the number of individuals in its habitat is decreasing drastically. Therefore, conservation measures are immediately needed for its conservation in nature.
